What is the Best Lithium Battery for a Seakeeper on a Boat?

Here at Dakota Lithium we are big fans of Seakeeper. Developed only a few years ago, Seakeeper technology allows boat owners to enjoy a calm, stable boat even when the seas are rough, providing exceptional comfort in rough seas and big waves. The engineering is elegant and awesome — it is a big gyroscope that dampens the boat’s roll by adjusting to each wave. It balances the boat and makes rolling waves feel like smooth sailing.
Dakota Lithium makes Seakeepers even better. Here’s why customers are using Dakota Lithium batteries to power their seakeeper:
  • DL batteries provides the ability to spool up anywhere, anytime. No shore power needed.
  • Customers save the time they would have to wait for the seakeeper to spool up. They can get on their boat and go.
  • No generator needed. No need to run the motor to spool up. Quiet, quick confidence.
  • Maximizes the return on investment of a Seakeeper. At $25,000 for a Seakeeper adding $1,500 to 3,000 in DL batteries gives the customer twice the enjoyment out of that very large capital expense at minimal extra cost.

What battery do I need for my Seakeeper?

Here’s the recommended power system by model.
Seakeeper 1 with ability to spool up anytime, anywhere
  • 1x Dakota Lithium Plus 12V 280Ah dual purpose battery – 280 Amp Hours of lithium capacity. Enough to run the Seakeeper plus other house systems.
  • Seekeeper 1 takes 30 minutes to spool up, and uses 66Ah of power during the spool up process. The dual purpose, 1,000CCA ability of the DL+ batteries can handle the high amp draw during the spool up process.
  • Remaining capacity after spool up will allow the Seakeeper to run for 4-8 hours without recharge (SK 1 uses 24-50 amps / hour).
  • Chargers: Use a lithium compatible DC to DC charger. No additional cost since a AGM charger is most likely in the boat design.
  • Customer benefit: Save 30 minutes of time they would spend stuck in port waiting for the Seakeeper to spool up. Freedom to turn on the seakeeper whenever or wherever they need it. Peace of mind that if the conditions are rougher than they expected that they have the power to make it better. Happier boat owners.

Seakeeper 2 with ability to spool up anytime, anywhere
  • 1x Dakota Lithium Plus 12V 280Ah dual purpose battery – total of 270 Amp Hours of lithium capacity. Enough to run the Seakeeper plus other house systems.
  • Seekeeper 2 takes 35 minutes to spool up, and uses 66Ah of power during the spool up process. The dual purpose, 1,000CCA ability of the DL+ batteries can handle the high amp draw during the spool up process.
  • Remaining capacity after spool up will allow the Seakeeper to run for 4-8 hours without recharge (SK 2 uses 24-50 amps / hour).
  • Chargers: Use a lithium compatible DC to DC charger. No additional cost since a AGM charger is most likely in the boat design.

Seakeeper 3 with ability to spool up anytime, anywhere
  • 2X Dakota Lithium Plus 12V 280Ah dual purpose batteries – total of 560 Amp Hours of capacity. Enough to run the Seakeeper plus other house systems.
  • Seekeeper 3 takes 86 minutes to spool up, and uses 121.5Ah of power during the spool up process. The dual purpose, 1,000CCA ability of the DL+ batteries can handle the high amp draw during the spool up process.
  • Remaining capacity after spool up will allow the Seakeeper to run for 6-8 hours without recharge.
  • Chargers: Use a lithium compatible DC to DC charger. No additional cost since a AGM charger is most likely in the boat design.

“6X the usable power of a traditional marine battery makes the DL+ 12V 280Ah battery the best lithium battery for a power hungry Seakeeper.” Andrew Jay, CEO, Dakota Lithium

  • Size: The Dakota Lithium Plus 12V 280Ah dual purpose battery is the same size as a group 31 AGM battery, but has 6X more usable power per battery (1 DL+ 280Ah battery is equal to 6 of the 100Ah AGM batteries). It is a drop in replacement for any of the house batteries currently used to power a Seakeeper.
  • 14.6 in x 7.7 in x 10.75 in (L370mm ×W195mm ×H274mm)
  • Group 31 battery equivalent
  • Lithium compatible chargers are required.
