Technical Specifications

  • 11 Year Warranty: World beating, best in class, eleven year manufacturer defect warranty.
  • Storage Capacity: 96 Ampere hours (Ah). Dakota Lithium batteries provide consistent power for all 96 Amp hours. DL LiFePO4 batteries have a flat voltage curve, which means they have a steady power output as the battery discharges. The power output will not dramatically drop like similar sized SLA batteries. You get all the juice down to the last drop.
  • Voltage: 48V (not intended for wiring multiple batteries in series, 48V systems only)
  • Energy: 4,915 Watt hours (Wh) per battery (4.6 kWh power system)
  • Terminals: M8 bolt size. Easy to adapt to different connection needs. (Max torque 15 ft. lbs.)
  • Weight: 77 lbs (35Kg). That's 80% lighter than a set of lead acid batteries, saving 300 lbs. of weight.
  • Size: 20.5"L x 10.5"W x 8.66"H (520mm x 267mm x 220mm)
  • Battery Range: For carts with a max speed of 23 mph or less expect a battery range of 40 - 60 miles depending on cart model. For carts with a max speed of 27 mph expect a battery range of 30 - 40 miles. Wire 2 units in parallel to double the battery range.
  • Lifecycles (battery lifespan): Up to 100% capacity for 2,000 recharge cycles (100%DOD), 80% capacity at ≥4,000 recharge cycles (80%DOD), 50% capacity at ≥6,000 (50%DOD - battery half life). The typical SLA has 500 cycles. Dakota Lithium batteries last so long that the price per use is a fraction of traditional batteries.
  • Operating temperature: Ideal for rugged & harsh environments. Much better than SLA or other lithium’s. -20°F min, +120°F max optimal operating temps (battery performs well down to -20°F). Avoid charging below 32°F.

  • Charge: 60A max, 57.6V recommended.
  • Includes active BMS protection: Contains a circuit that handles cell balancing, low voltage cutoff, high voltage cutoff, short circuit protection and temperature protection for increased performance and longer life. A LiFePO4 battery charger is required to turn the battery back on after a BMS cut off
  • Certifications: All batteries are UN38 certified. Dakota Lithium's cells are UL1642 certified and have been tested per IEC62133 standards. Meets all US & International regulations for air, ground, train, & marine transport.
  • ISO 9001:2015: Dakota Lithium is ISO Certified per 9001:2015 standards, and select models are produced in ISO 14001 certified facilities.
  • Recommended Charger: 48V 8A LiFePO4 charger. (Sold Separate) Dakota Lithium 48V batteries should be charged at 57.6 volts, higher than AGM or lead acid. Lead acid chargers will work, but will only charge the battery to 80% of capacity. Upgrade to 48V 15A charger for 2X the charging time.
  • How Much Power do I need for my golf cart?: This single 48V battery will replace a set of 6V, 8V, or 12V batteries in a 48V cart. This battery is suitable for most carts with a max speed of less than 27 mph and a motor controller rated under 240 Amps. If your motor controller is rated 240 Amps or higher, you may need two of these 48V batteries in parallel (some dune buggies, off-road carts, ATVs, and high speed carts fall into this category).
  • How Much Power do I need for Solar Panels?: Each battery has 4.6 kWh of power storage. 48V has an efficiency advantage for solar energy systems (google 48V vs 12V for solar energy). 500 - 800 watts of solar panel capacity with a 48V solar charge controller would fully charge this battery daily.

FAQ
  • Twice the Power?

Yes! Here at Dakota Lithium we build all of our batteries with lithium iron phosphate technology which has many distinct advantages over traditional batteries. Including 60% less weight, a charging speed that is up to 5X faster, and a significantly longer lifespan (5-10 years longer on average). One of the most noticeable advantages however is the flat voltage curve. Unlike a lead acid battery where the voltage drops as you use the battery a Dakota Lithium battery has a steady voltage for 99% of the battery’s charge. That means you get all the power down to the last drop and double the usable power of traditional batteries.

  • Are Lithium Batteries Safe?

Dakota Lithium batteries are 100% safe & reliable. Our signature chemistry, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), does not contain rare earth elements (like Cobalt) or heavy metals, is non-toxic, including no lead or acid, is non-corrosive, does not off gas, requires no watering or maintenance, can be placed in any orientation, and unlike other lithium batteries will not explode or catch fire. In addition, each Dakota Lithium battery is protected from over heating, over charging, and short circuiting, by a battery management system (BMS) microchip that also extends the lifespan and is contained in a rugged, waterproof case (although enough water can conduct electricity between the terminals, so don’t submerse the battery). For best performance & reliability we recommend using a LiFePO4 charger.

  • How do I charge a lithium battery?

Dakota Lithium LiFePO4 batteries perform best when charged by a LiFePO4-compatible battery charger. LiFePO4 batteries require a different charging profile and voltage requirements compared to traditional battery chargers. Chargers designed for different chemistries may work, but they may not charge a Dakota Lithium battery to full capacity. It’s important to select a charger that has a LiFePO4-compatible constant-current constant-voltage (CC/CV) charging profile, provides the correct charging voltage for your battery, does not exceed the charge current (amp) for the battery, and has a charge indicator LED to let you know when the battery is fully charged. You can find more information on How to Charge Dakota Lithium and LiFePO4 batteries on our website. If you need help finding a compatible charger for your Dakota Lithium battery, or if you want to check your current charger compatibility, please reach out to our support team.

  • Will cold weather affect my battery?

Your Dakota Lithium battery will discharge normally between a range of -20F and 120F (-29C to 49C). DL batteries are commonly used among ice fishers for their flashers and ice augers, so they are quite resilient and are frequently used in cold climates. In cases of extreme cold however, it is recommended that the batteries be insulated. We also do not recommend charging our batteries below freezing temperatures. If you are planning to regularly charge your battery below freezing temperatures we recommend the DL+ 12V 135Ah battery which has an internal heating element and is optimal for use in cars, trucks, RVs, off grid solar, and any application where the battery will be charged regularly in extremely cold environments (like a North Dakota winter).

  • What battery do I need for my RV or Camper Van?

The industry standard house battery size used in most RVs, Campers, and #VanLife builds is the DL 100Ah battery. This is a drop in replacement for AGM and most lead acid batteries. If you are charging off your engine’s alternator we recommend a Victron DC-DC smart charger. If charging off solar panels we recommend a Victron Smart Solar charge controller, or if you have a solar charge controller choose the lithium setting. A handy size chart for number of batteries needed by size of RV is available here.

I replaced 4-12 volt with this 48V96AH, I can’t believe the difference it made and the distance I get with my cart. I use my Club Car for hunting, I have knobby tires on the rear and with the loss of approximately 280lbs of battery weight my cart can really climb hills !!! I realize the battery is expensive but with wet cell batteries only lasting 3-5 years I thought I would give it a try and I love it!!!

Highly recommend

The 48v Dakota battery is functioning as expected in my 2017 Clubcar President. Installation is not a simple drop- in. The battery compartment is partitioned and the center divider has to be dealt with , as the Dakota spans both halves of the compartment. ( not a deal breaker) Then terminal studs are a bit short , connecting the cart wires and the leads for the charger wires is almost not enough threads. Performance has been excellent so far. -- F Stoltz

Everything was going just great and I was elated with my Dakota battery until this week when my charger didn’t charge. Fortunately, my installer, Dave M., replaced the defective charger within 30 MINUTES of my call. WHAT INCREDIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I hope to give a 5 star review next time.

I replaced 4 12 volt batteries in my 2015 EZGO with a 48V 96Ah battery. I used the bottom of the packing foam in the bottom of the cart where old batteries were and set the new one in that - perfect fit! I changed the Trombetta 36 volt solenoid to 48 volt Trombetta. Hooked all wires up except for one from the old charging socket. That was the Grey one same length as the red one and everything worked great. Cart is much lighter, handles better and goes like heck!

Love these batteries. I replaced 8 6V AGM batteries with a total weight of 960lb with 3 of the 48V Dakota batteries at under 300lbs total. What a difference removing all that weigh has in my sailboat!! That's right, these power a 10KW electric motor in my 36' sailboat. (as well as the house circuitry through a 48-12v step down converter) Better performance and a lot less weight... winner winner !!
