Description

The MultiPlus is a combined inverter and charger in one elegant package. Due to its versatility, programmable settings, and rich features we have found the Multiplus to be the ultimate in off grid micro-functionality – like vans, RVs, boats, and off-grid homes. Its many features include a true sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, hybrid PowerAssist technology, plus multiple system integration features. The unique power assist allows for safe charging using generators, shore power, or other power sources and the uninterrupted energy supply (UPS) function means no downtime in the case of power disruption (it seamlessly transitions to battery power). The 2,000 watt inverter allow you to use 12V Dakota Lithium batteries to power household electronics that require 120V AC (the wall plug in your home) and is a good size to run a medium sized TV, stereo, fridge, small kitchen appliances, computers, or other home electronics. Datasheet available here. Users with larger systems can add on the Digital Multi-Control panel for easier remote access. Please note: the recommenced battery size for this inverter is 200 Ah in Dakota Lithium batteries or larger.

Technical Specifications

  • What is an inverter?: This inverter will allow you to transform solar energy coming from solar panels, or stored energy coming from batteries into AC power, the power that you use in your home. This allows you to plug any electronics that have an AC wall plug into this inverter.
  • Inverter Rating: 12 Volts, 2,000 watts. For use with 12V batteries to power anything that uses AC power (the power in your wall socket)
  • Optimized for Solar Energy: Compatible with solar panels. For higher efficiency we recommend using with a battery and a solar charge controller.
  • How does this fit into my off-grid, home power system?: This inverter and charger combo makes it easy to use energy available from your batteries in the form of an AC wall plug. The Multiplus inverter connects to your Dakota Lithium batteries and can charge them via the alternator in a gasoline engine, via solar panels, or via shore power. If you are charging your batteries with solar panels you will want a solar charge controller. The remote monitoring capabilities will tell you how much power your have available at any time.
  • Recommended Battery Size: Recommenced battery size for this inverter is a 2X the 100 Ah Dakota Lithium battery or larger.
  • Unique PowerAssist feature: The MultiPlus will prevent overload of a limited AC source, such as a generator or shore power connection. First, battery charging will automatically be reduced when otherwise an overload would occur. The second level will boost the output of a generator or shore side supply with power taken from the battery.
  • Uninterrupted AC power (UPS function): In the event of a grid failure, or when shore or generator power is disconnected, the inverter within the Multi is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected loads. This happens so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without disruption.
  • Virtually unlimited power thanks to parallel operation: Up to 6 Multis can operate in parallel to achieve higher power output. Three phase or split phase operation is also possible. Please check our datasheets to see which models have paralleling, three phase and split phase capabilities.
  • Remote Monitoring and Control: When coupled with a GX device (e.g. Cerbo GX) you can monitor and control your Multi and system or systems' locally (LAN) or remotely via the internet from anywhere in the world, using the free VRM app and free VRM portal website. Access can be from a phone, tablet, laptop or PC for multiple operating systems. There is no end to the level of control, from adjusting your Multi to auto starting a backupgenerator and more…
  • Charge Current: Charge house batteries at 50 amps or 80 amps an hour. Programmable settings allow for use with any batteries (Dakota Lithium like to be charged at 14.4 volts).

FAQ
  • Twice the Power?

Yes! Here at Dakota Lithium we build all of our batteries with lithium iron phosphate technology which has many distinct advantages over traditional batteries. Including 60% less weight, a charging speed that is up to 5X faster, and a significantly longer lifespan (5-10 years longer on average). One of the most noticeable advantages however is the flat voltage curve. Unlike a lead acid battery where the voltage drops as you use the battery a Dakota Lithium battery has a steady voltage for 99% of the battery’s charge. That means you get all the power down to the last drop and double the usable power of traditional batteries.

  • Are Lithium Batteries Safe?

Dakota Lithium batteries are 100% safe & reliable. Our signature chemistry, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), does not contain rare earth elements (like Cobalt) or heavy metals, is non-toxic, including no lead or acid, is non-corrosive, does not off gas, requires no watering or maintenance, can be placed in any orientation, and unlike other lithium batteries will not explode or catch fire. In addition, each Dakota Lithium battery is protected from over heating, over charging, and short circuiting, by a battery management system (BMS) microchip that also extends the lifespan and is contained in a rugged, waterproof case (although enough water can conduct electricity between the terminals, so don’t submerse the battery). For best performance & reliability we recommend using a LiFePO4 charger.

  • How do I charge a lithium battery?

Dakota Lithium LiFePO4 batteries perform best when charged by a LiFePO4-compatible battery charger. LiFePO4 batteries require a different charging profile and voltage requirements compared to traditional battery chargers. Chargers designed for different chemistries may work, but they may not charge a Dakota Lithium battery to full capacity. It’s important to select a charger that has a LiFePO4-compatible constant-current constant-voltage (CC/CV) charging profile, provides the correct charging voltage for your battery, does not exceed the charge current (amp) for the battery, and has a charge indicator LED to let you know when the battery is fully charged. You can find more information on How to Charge Dakota Lithium and LiFePO4 batteries on our website. If you need help finding a compatible charger for your Dakota Lithium battery, or if you want to check your current charger compatibility, please reach out to our support team.

  • Will cold weather affect my battery?

Your Dakota Lithium battery will discharge normally between a range of -20F and 120F (-29C to 49C). DL batteries are commonly used among ice fishers for their flashers and ice augers, so they are quite resilient and are frequently used in cold climates. In cases of extreme cold however, it is recommended that the batteries be insulated. We also do not recommend charging our batteries below freezing temperatures. If you are planning to regularly charge your battery below freezing temperatures we recommend the DL+ 12V 135Ah battery which has an internal heating element and is optimal for use in cars, trucks, RVs, off grid solar, and any application where the battery will be charged regularly in extremely cold environments (like a North Dakota winter).

  • What battery do I need for my RV or Camper Van?

The industry standard house battery size used in most RVs, Campers, and #VanLife builds is the DL 100Ah battery. This is a drop in replacement for AGM and most lead acid batteries. If you are charging off your engine’s alternator we recommend a Victron DC-DC smart charger. If charging off solar panels we recommend a Victron Smart Solar charge controller, or if you have a solar charge controller choose the lithium setting. A handy size chart for number of batteries needed by size of RV is available here.

2024/2025 Dakota Lithium Catalog

Robert M.

I bought two units. Pretty impressive pieces of technology. The more I read online of their capabilities the more impressed I became. The manual is pretty basic and unimpressive. I was led to believe the programming for my purposes was via the units' dip switches. What I wish I knew before the purchase is they require software programming to enable two or more units to sync for your intended purpose. By default they're set to standalone 120V operation. In my case I wanted 240V split-phase ops so I need to set that up via software with the two 120V units 180 degrees out of phase. You need to download the free Victron software but also you need the Victron Energy Interface MK3-USB (VE.Bus to USB) unit. With taxes the unit's about $77 USD. I'm still waiting on it from another vendor (didn't see it on DL's site) but, in the meantime, I'm getting my programming education from Victron and some You Tubers, I don't see any reason why I'll change my rating here. Another benefit of programming is enabling the use of a small output generator. The software enables limiting the inverter's generator current draw to that supplied by the generator. You supplement the generator's load supply by drawing from the batteries as the load increases past the generator's capacity. During light loading the Victron unit recharges the batteries. Single, split, and 3 phase operations are just three modes available. For my mission, this does everything plus!
