A lifelong fisherman, Ken Wood began fishing from a kayak in 2007 and competing from one in 2015. He is the founder of Massachusetts Kayak Bassin’, the biggest kayak bass fishing tournament series in the state. He is also a husband, father, Air Force veteran, obsessive music fan, writer, publisher, editor, and dozens of other things. His list of passions is as diverse as it is long.

I stumbled into kayak fishing by chance. Surfing the Internet back in 2007, I was in the market for a canoe, having no clue fishing kayaks even existed. I came across the Pelican Getaway 140, a simple sit-in kayak. No bells, no whistles; just two flush mount rod holders and one swivel rod holder. Intrigued, as well as younger and more impulsive, I ordered two—one for me, the other for my father. I began fishing tournaments that same year and continued to fish out of that kayak for 10 years, before finally upgrading to the original Jackson Kayak Big Rig. I now fish from the Big Rig HD/FD, but that old Pelican served me well.
The 10ah Powerbox 10. Hands down. It provides all-day power and the built-in light has been invaluable, turning night into day, while unloading in those pre-dawn hours.
