Technical Specifications

  • For 12 volt lithium batteries: We highly reccomend you use a LiFePO4 compatible charger. 12v chargers for lead acid batteries may work, but will decrease performance and lifespan of the battery.
  • Size: 9.84" L x 5.70" W x 2.75 H (L: 9.84" x W: 5.70" x H: 2.75")
  • Weight: 6.65 lbs/3.02kgs
  • Free Adapter for 24V, 36V or 48V single batteries, by request: Easily charge a 24V, 36V, or 48V single battery, or a bank of 12V + 24V or 36V batteries. (adapter available by request for no additional cost)
  • Charger rating: INPUT 100-120VAC, 50/60HZ. OUTPUT: 14.4 volts, 40.0 amps, 10 amps per bank / channel
  • Terminal Connections: SAE connections make it easy to connect your charger to the battery. Install the ring terminals using the bolts on your terminals. Bolt black to your black terminal. Red to your red terminal. Do not short circuit. Then connect the charger via the SAE plug when you need to charge. Red light on the charger will turn on when charging. Light turns green when the battery is full.
  • Smart BMS communication: Charger will restart or "wake up" a Dakota Lithium BMS that has turned off a battery due to short circuit or excessive amp draw. Simply connect the charger to the battery to initiate a restart.
  • Lead Wire Lengths: Charger to SAE plug 36"SAE to ring terminals 24"Total length connected 60"AC Power Cord to Charger 60"
  • How fast will my battery charge?: Charges at a rate of 10 amps per battery (4 batteries supported). To determine your charging speed take the amp hour rating of your battery and divide by 10. For example, a 54 amp hour battery (Ah) would charge in 5.4 hours.
  • Can I charge my battery faster?: For most applications a charging time of 3 - 10 hours provides the longest lifespan for your battery. But if you have an application where you need rapid charging Dakota Lithium batteries can be safely charged in up to 1 hour (at a rate of 1C). For example, you could use a 20 amp charger with a 23 Ah battery for a 1 hour charge time. Charging at a 1 hour rate does reduce the lifespan over time. In our laboratory testing we found that the longest lifespan for Dakota Lithium batteries was at a charging speed of 0.3C or less (we recommend that the charger amp rating is 1/3 or less of the battery amp hour rating for longest lifespan).
  • What voltage should LiFePO4 batteries be charged at?: 14.4 volts is recommended for Dakota Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries. This charger charges at 14.4 volts.
  • Waterproof: Built for marine use. IP 67. Internal components are sealed in a waterproof putty that makes it impossible for water to short circuit the charger. Wiring is SAE waterproof plugs.
  • Rating: IP67

FAQ
  • Twice the Power?

Yes! Here at Dakota Lithium we build all of our batteries with lithium iron phosphate technology which has many distinct advantages over traditional batteries. Including 60% less weight, a charging speed that is up to 5X faster, and a significantly longer lifespan (5-10 years longer on average). One of the most noticeable advantages however is the flat voltage curve. Unlike a lead acid battery where the voltage drops as you use the battery a Dakota Lithium battery has a steady voltage for 99% of the battery’s charge. That means you get all the power down to the last drop and double the usable power of traditional batteries.

  • Are Lithium Batteries Safe?

Dakota Lithium batteries are 100% safe & reliable. Our signature chemistry, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), does not contain rare earth elements (like Cobalt) or heavy metals, is non-toxic, including no lead or acid, is non-corrosive, does not off gas, requires no watering or maintenance, can be placed in any orientation, and unlike other lithium batteries will not explode or catch fire. In addition, each Dakota Lithium battery is protected from over heating, over charging, and short circuiting, by a battery management system (BMS) microchip that also extends the lifespan and is contained in a rugged, waterproof case (although enough water can conduct electricity between the terminals, so don’t submerse the battery). For best performance & reliability we recommend using a LiFePO4 charger.

  • How do I charge a lithium battery?

Dakota Lithium LiFePO4 batteries perform best when charged by a LiFePO4-compatible battery charger. LiFePO4 batteries require a different charging profile and voltage requirements compared to traditional battery chargers. Chargers designed for different chemistries may work, but they may not charge a Dakota Lithium battery to full capacity. It’s important to select a charger that has a LiFePO4-compatible constant-current constant-voltage (CC/CV) charging profile, provides the correct charging voltage for your battery, does not exceed the charge current (amp) for the battery, and has a charge indicator LED to let you know when the battery is fully charged. You can find more information on How to Charge Dakota Lithium and LiFePO4 batteries on our website. If you need help finding a compatible charger for your Dakota Lithium battery, or if you want to check your current charger compatibility, please reach out to our support team.

  • Will cold weather affect my battery?

Your Dakota Lithium battery will discharge normally between a range of -20F and 120F (-29C to 49C). DL batteries are commonly used among ice fishers for their flashers and ice augers, so they are quite resilient and are frequently used in cold climates. In cases of extreme cold however, it is recommended that the batteries be insulated. We also do not recommend charging our batteries below freezing temperatures. If you are planning to regularly charge your battery below freezing temperatures we recommend the DL+ 12V 135Ah battery which has an internal heating element and is optimal for use in cars, trucks, RVs, off grid solar, and any application where the battery will be charged regularly in extremely cold environments (like a North Dakota winter).

  • Can I use this to start my car/boat engine?

We have two battery options available for starting motors: the LTO Automotive Cranking battery and the DL+ Dual Purpose line. Both are designed for starting motors, with a 1000CCA equivalent of engine starting power for boat, car, or truck engines. The DL+ line also offers our legendary deep cycle capability in addition to engine starting power. Please note that our standard deep cycle packs do not have cranking ability and cannot be used for starting motors.

  • What battery do I need for my RV or Camper Van?

The industry standard house battery size used in most RVs, Campers, and #VanLife builds is the DL 100Ah battery. This is a drop in replacement for AGM and most lead acid batteries. If you are charging off your engine’s alternator we recommend a Victron DC-DC smart charger. If charging off solar panels we recommend a Victron Smart Solar charge controller, or if you have a solar charge controller choose the lithium setting. A handy size chart for number of batteries needed by size of RV is available here.

Charles K.

Purchased this charger to match the existing batteries on my boat. Easy to install and charges the batteries on my boat quick.

Jim J.

The charger and the 36 volt adapter I ordered with the charger are installed and ready. I am waiting for a 12 volt 100 ah battery scheduled for the end of September. A suggestion for the fishing industry would be a voltage reducer for the 36 volt battery down to a 14-16 volt output to power the mega life and live scope units that require more power. I have you’re 36 to 12 volt but the above would work better.

Greg P.

Needs longer wires. Otherwise it's nice

Edwin Murawski

Works as planned.

Shane C.

This was a great addition for my boat and incredibly easy to install.

Not much on disconnecting every time you’re done, charging the batteries and discharger bleeds back

Thomas Bates

Havent used this yet either but it came with 24v adapter so that was nice. We will see how it works

Ed C.

So far so good, charging (3) 12v 100ah in series for 36v trolling motor, still really new but seems to be a solid brand still have some field testing to do.
