Born in Seattle, WA, Michael moved to Grand Forks, ND to train as a pilot at the University of North Dakota. After graduation he worked as a flight instructor, pilot, and engineer. His first invention was a night vision compatible headlamp for use by pilots. After moving 10,000 units he sold that project to a pilot accessory industry leader, and joined forces with Dr. Yong Hou, a chemical engineer and professor at the University of North Dakota to launch Dakota Lithium Batteries, and Hilltopper Electric Bike Company under the parent company Clean Republic, to align his efforts more closely with his passion for renewable energy.
