Can I use or charge my Dakota Lithium battery in cold weather?

Yes—with the right setup.
Dakota Lithium batteries will generally safely discharge between -4°F and 120°F (-20°C to 49°C), making them a trusted choice for ice fishing, winter camping, and off-grid use in northern climates. However, charging below 32°F (0°C) is not recommended unless your battery has internal heating. Charging while frozen can damage the cells and reduce lifespan.
For cold-weather charging, we strongly recommend choosing a battery with Internal Even-Heat Technology, such as the DL+ 12V 135Ah, DL+ 12V 320Ah, or the 12V 100Ah with heating. Don’t just look for the battery model—make sure it includes this feature.
For added protection in extreme cold, use insulation or store the battery in a climate-controlled area.
These are general guidelines. Every battery has its own operating specs, so check your specific model’s limits and, if you’re unsure, reach out to us at support@dakotalithium.com
